Thanks to the efforts of some good friends of ours, we're able to offer
some pictures by real photographers, starting with some of the best
that Gerry Frechette could offer. Then we move on to offerings of Tom Posthuma
and finish up with our Seattle-area friend, Casey Binz. Please note that all
images on this page are displayed courtesy of and are copyright by the respective
photographers.
Left: Kevin Brown (far side) gets left on by David Baca and loses in the
first round of eliminations. Right: Brian Hough is nearly out of the frame
in his first round thumping of Leo Grocock.
Left: John Evanchuk (near side) leaves way too early against Randy Parker
and gives away their first round match. Right: Rod Clough (near side) leaves
on time against Doug Gordon, but still loses by a wide margin.
Left: A more successful Canadian effort was mounted by Calgary's Roger
Bateman in the Mopac Auto Supply-sponsored "Showdown" flopper. He won his
first round match, but dropped out in the second round against Pat Austin.
Right: North Vancouver's Howie Stevens also went to the second round with
his C/A Comp Eliminator Ford Probe.

The CFMI Rock 101 Girls were on the starting line during the first round
of eliminations; NHRA Chief Starter Rick "The Iceman" Stewart actually broke
a sweat for the first time in recent memory.

In the last pair of the first round of Federal-Mogul Dragster eliminations,
Brandon Henkelman in the "Henkelmonster" (far side) blows away Mike "Not THAT
Mike" Austin with low e.t. of the meet, an awesome 5.23 at 269 mph.
Left: Don Garlits was caught hiding out in Gordie Bonin's pit area.
Right: John Force was seen in deep conversation with Jerry Darien. Hmmmm...
Spotted in the alcohol pits early on Saturday was Chief Running Amok
