Friday's Photo Gallery
Coming out of a long hiatus, Steve Nichols brought his "Mill Road Boys" nitro flopper out from Delaware to test before the Reunion. The last time this car was seen in action was way back in January at the first IHRA event of the year in West Palm Beach.
Resting in the shade under the canopy, Jimmy White (Covina, CA) has his A/Gas '63 Corvette looking really good. One of the sharpest and most photogenic cars in the pits. Wait until you see it glowing in the sun on the track.
Sorry to admit that I'm not really sure who these guys are - or even if they're A/Fuel or 7.0 Pro or what. My money is on A/Fuel and maybe by the time I get through all the event photos, the team/car name will come to me.
This has to be one of the coolest cars here. And notice just how laidback the owner, Dave Walker of Yermo, CA is kicking back in his lawn chair before the test 'n tune starts. For the record: it's a '30 Model A Ford with a 350 Chev and runs in the 12's. Cool or what?
This entry, the Jr. Fuel car driven by Bud Hammer and owned by Adams, Hammer, Hansen and Miller, finished runnerup to the ultra-tough Dean Carter in eliminations on Sunday. The only non-Chevy in the field (early Chrysler obviously) and very competitive.
Resting in the sun before heading for the lanes, Fullerton, CA's Ron Kolb has his NE3 (Nostalgia Eliminator ie. 9.60 index) dragster.
Making his debut with the "Evil, Wicked, Mean & Nasty" tribute car, is Dennis Taylor. After many years of competing in Top Alcohol floppers, Dennis finally saw the light and has moved over to the nitro nostalgia camp. His tribute to the late Harley Griffith looks great and should be running hard very soon.
So what the heck is a Pro Mod doing here? Guess again. This is an A/Gas car. Yes, Brandon Frye of Taft, CA has what looks like a Pro Mod, with it being a flat-black '57 Chevy with a blown alky 526 cid Hemi under the hood, but in the world of nostalgia it's an A/Gas car.
On the other hand we've got a car that is about as nostalgia as it gets. High driving position, very tall, straight-up roll cage, a Kay Sissell designed 292 GMC engine and nothing fancy, other than hundreds of hours of polishing time. This very cool '23 Model "T" owned and driven by Ron Anzalone of Los Osos, CA is as true as it gets. And "The Teapot" runs hard too: mid 9's at more than 130 mph.
