It's only noon on Saturday but with the condensed schedule, Ed Verenka's team is already loading up and heading home to Alberta.

We enter the "Dude!" zone of Morgan Lucas and get a couple of closeup looks at this marvel of technology. If it's trick and works, it's on this car.

Left:
A closer look at the ignition controls and fuel system. Yes, this really is rocket science.

Right:
Another victim of "shortblock-on-the-ground-itis" was the Johnson family racing team. The carnage
was incredible during Friday's qualifying; at least 15 engines ruined.

Left:
Mike Johnson (on the left) surveys things prior to their first round match.

Right:
No lettering or decals yet, but Brian Hough's new car's paint scheme looks sharp.

Left:
They're not sure who snuck the A/Fuel decal on the windshield, but the Hentges team ran so fast the weekend it happened (Mission last month) that they're afraid to take it off.

Right:
Even though they failed to qualify, Shawn Nault's crew was hard at work prepping the car for their next event (a match race in Spokane where crew chief Derek Snelson will drive).

Left: No, it's not a crime scene from CSI, but you're close: it's Bob Hafner actually getting dirty underneath a race car.

Right: While Nault's Funny Car boyd basks in the sun, the "team supervisor" rests in the shade (background).
