The latest update as of October 14, 2023

We'd have lots of words and e.t.'s and speeds to go with the pictures but an unfortunate mis-steak with the cut and paste function blew it all up. The upside is that we have all the details recorded, courtesy of NHRA.tv, and we'll be able to fill in the blanks from this report and the second qualifying session later today. Stay tuned for that update.
And here is the update: With 21 cars in the pits, but only 19 in the staging lanes for the first qualifying session, there were going to be at least a couple of holes on the list, but a full field of 16-cars were virtually guaranteed, with two more qualifying attempts on tap.
NOSTALGIA FUNNY CAR - Qualifying Session #1

(LEFT) With nothing but a DNQ at the March Meet on their resume for the season, the Jerry Espeseth owned and driven, Brad Littlefiedl and (former owner) Jason Rupert tuned team were hoping for a decent pass to open their weekend. It was a lot more than decent, as Espeseth blasted into the 5.50's with a brilliant 5.595 - 259.11 to show everyone that they were ready to run hard. It came at a cost though, as a huge cloud of smoke erupted at the finish line, but fortunately, no oil or parts ended up on the track.
(RIGHT) In the other lane, the only Ford-powered Funny Car in existence ran decently to half track, before Drew Austin stepped off the pedal and coasted across the finish line at 6.003 - 202.09 that gave them something to work with.
