NHRA Big O Tires Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Yes, it's race time again. Already. As always. It seems like I'm stuck on an endless merry-go-round of highways, hotels, and race tracks and when do I get off? Starting Monday afternoon it seems when I hop on a plane at LAX and land in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico later that afternoon. Then nothing but sun, sand and cervezas for nine days of bliss....

But right now it's time to grab the camera, head for the starting line and start shooting pictures of those ever-popular wheelstanding Super Stockers. With approximately 100 cars in each of the four sportsman categories (Stock, Super Stock, Super Gas and Super Comp) being contested here this weekend, it's going to be a long smoky day of high-winding static burnouts, big wheelies and lots of stuttering throttle-stopped cars.

With no Pro cars running today, the announcers are going a little goofy already, and have dubbed this "Hardcore Thursday" and congratulating the four or five spectators in the stands for actually being there. The temperatures are still rather cool - mid 50's - but at least the sun is out and it isn't windy like it was yesterday when it was difficult to just stand around out here at the Strip. More news later today and pictures this evening on SpeedZone Magazine.

The travel pics were getting a little overwhelming for this page so they've been moved to their own page in the Features section. From there you can follow our roadtrip adventures through "Bobby Thunder's Mostly Xcellent Adventures". Now we'll have more room for all the drag racing news here. We've added all the pics from Monday's excursion through Death Valley. Warm? No, it didn't even break 100 F - close, but not quite. Thank goodness it wasn't summer.
