The latest update as of June 11, 2010

As I sat down to start writing this latest update, news of the worst possible sort came in from Englishtown, New Jersey. Top Alcohol Funny Car racer Neal Parker, crashed into and apparently through the catch net at the end of the track after a career best pass. He was pronounced dead at the scene from massive head injuries.

Two years after Scott Kalitta crashed and died at the same track, albeit under somewhat different circumstances, another tragedy has struck NHRA and Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. My sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of Neal Parker, his crew, fans and everyone involved and touched by this terrible news.

In view of what's happened today, I'm going to take a break from writing and especially, the ongoing rant against the AHRA. Compared to what happened in New Jersey, it really doesn't matter that much, does it? We will get back to business here tomorrow, but for now, let's just contemplate how precious life is and how much we have to be thankful for when we have good health, family and friends to keep us strong.

Godspeed, Neal Parker. May you rest in peace.

While I'm very hesitant to put anything else on this page today, we have to do our best to learn from and improve safety at all times, and in that interest, I'm putting up links to the following reports about what transpired today at the NHRA SuperNationals.
