Welcome to the Northern Thunder Top Ten Links Page
The sites listed on this page -- and they aren't in any particular order --
are simply the ones that we personally visit and enjoy the most. With literally
thousands of drag racing-related sites on the web, the choices were difficult,
but here they are. The logos are links (in case you weren't sure :-)
Gee, tough choice, eh? How could this page NOT be at the top of the list? It
scores top marks in all almost areas - not enough dragsters Larry, but that
aside, its got something for everyone. Sort of like a professional version
of Northern Thunder, but without such a narrow focus. It will take quite an
effort to knock this one off the top rung. Any takers? No, I didn't think so.
Launched less than two years ago, this online magazine is the brainchild of
Bobby Bennett, Jr., a motorsport public relations and marketing genius. Ably
assisted by a large crew, the twice monthly editions of the "e-zine" are eagerly
awaited by thousands of web surfers. Based on the US east coast, it naturally
leans more towards IHRA coverage, with a heavy emphasis on Pro Mod racing.
Hard-hitting editorials, a "news and dirt" column, event stories, tech and
feature articles and interviews . . . it's got just about everything you could
want in a drag racing magazine. Best of all, it's online and free.
This one is a "tag-team" entry. If the flames don't get you, the research division
will. A real one-two punch to the brain. Enter at your own risk and don't say
we didn't warn you. It may not always be pretty, but it's reality . . . raw
and uncensored. And you just never know who's going to turn up on "Header
Flames".
Want to know what's happening over in Europe? Then go here for all the latest
news and pictures. Updated daily and not afraid to tackle controversy when it
arises, "Eurodragster" has grown rapidly and become very polished in the past
few years. Lots of links, great photo galleries and all the latest news and
results from England and the continent. Believe me, they've got some real
hot rods over there.
To describe this year-old site, staffed by several very well-known drag racing
journalists, among them Chris Martin, Jeff Burk, and Dave Densmore, I'll leave
it to them: "DRAG RACING Online" will be published monthly with new
features and stories. Some columns will be updated throughout the month. We
owe no allegiance to any sanctioning body and we call 'em like we see 'em.
We strive for truth, integrity, irreverence and the betterment of drag racing.
We have no agenda other than providing the drag racing public with unbiased
information and points they can't read anywhere else except in the bathroom."
There's not much I can add to that, is there? Check it out on a regular basis.

The best drag racing website in Australia. Grant "Nitro" Stephens has put together
the Ozzie version of Northern Thunder; thankfully without all the incendiary
editorials. Great picture galleries, links page and the latest news from all
over the world. Heck, I go to HIS site to steal (I mean borrow) lots of my
material. Updated almost daily, it's the place to go to find out the latest
drag racing news.
The "Big Daddy" of the drag racing world wide web. If it isn't listed here,
then it simply doesn't exist. Even the webmaster, Bill Pratt, can barely keep
track of how many cars or links he has listed. It's "gi-normous" to the max.
Even if you could ever make it through all the lists and links, there's still
more to see. Pack a lunch (and maybe dinner) when you go there.
You want race results as they happen? Then this is the place. At least if its
NHRA or IHRA National Events you're looking for. You can almost feel like you're
there with the results of each round in every eliminator coming through within
minutes of each run. Not just numbers, but commentary on each pass too. On a
race weekend my clicker finger gets worn out hitting the reload button.
How did this place sneak up so far on the list? No secrets, just one of the
best dragstrip websites anywhere. And it just happens to be in Australia. Regular
updates to the "Latest News" - on almost a daily basis, and the most detailed
results page from any dragstrip site. All the details, just like on the time-slips,
heck, you could figure out a tune-up for it before you ever got to the track.
(Oops, gave away another secret. Don't tell my crewchief!)
While this site is more oriented to doorslammers, it's very well done and is
worth a look on a regular basis. Lots of stories, pictures, quality links and
more. Not sure about the judgement of webmaster Michael Ray - he actually ran
my "Money, Marketing and Nitro" story on his features page - but the site is
timely, informative and professional.
Now for those sites that didn't quite make it onto the "A" List. They're
all very good places to visit though and wouldn't have even made it this far
if they weren't. Remember, there's still over 1300 sites on the "Hot Links"
pages that aren't anywhere on this page.
Very well done association site. The Australian National Drag Racing Association
has put together a professional, well-organized and informative site. Regular
updates and links to all the Aussie drag racing info that you're looking for,
along with all the regulations, schedules and other necessary info for drag
racing downunder. Only thing that detracts from it is the lack of a link to
Northern Thunder. I wonder why, eh?
Yet another association site that won't put up a link to Northern Thunder. And
with good reason too! Its slick, its professional, its very current with
daily updates. All the results, schedules and all the NHRA news that's fit to
print. You won't find any of the behind the scenes dirt here, but for the
"official" word go here and read their version of reality.
This one came literally come out of nowhere two years ago. "Sharkman's Top
End Tales" website is a little hard to describe . . . Part comedy, part commentary,
lots of great photos and some really bad ones. His "School of Excellence"
features the worst examples of drag racing photography from around the
world. It's even got a pic of an Ozzie dragstrip taken by a Canadian tourist.
Hmm, wonder who that could be? For an "alternate" view of drag racing in England,
be sure to check this one out. You just never know what you'll find lurking
there. Don't be afraid - this is a friendly shark - it doesn't bite.
This one is put up by an association of racers. As such, it's not hampered
by any political considerations and can pretty much do what its members want.
For all the news about what's going on in Top Methanol (Alcohol) racing in
Europe you'll want to go here. Updates are irregular and since their season ends
in September, are minimal over the winter break, but it's an informative, well
put together site all the same. Definitely worth a look for all alcohol drag
racing fans.
Don Ewald has "been there and done that". A Top Fuel racer from the early 60's
until the 70's, Don has "retired" to the mountains of Southern Oregon and now
spends his time putting together great photo galleries of the "good old days"
of drag racing. It's virtually all front-engine dragsters, and does take a
while to load, but it's definitely worth the trip. And not just once either,
as this site continues to grow every week. The title pretty much sums up Don's
philosophy: "Fuel Dragsters - When We Did It For Love" (not money).
Online for less than two years, Lyle Greenberg, Top Alcohol Funny Car racer,
has put together a very good site. Some great photo galleries, race results
and stories from the last two seasons and even a great links page. (They must
be great links, they've even got me there!) One of the best racer websites out
there and sure to get even better. Keep an eye on it on a regular basis.
A great example of the "less is more" school of websites. Put together by a
British Columbia (my home province) Sportsman racer, the "Grapevine" website
has come along nicely in it's first year of existence. Bill Evans is a man
who says what he thinks and isn't afraid to stand behind his words. His brother
John (the Super Comp racer) is the silent one and would just as soon not see
any of it on the web. Quite a combination, eh? Check it out regularly, it's
got all the latest juicy rumours and some very thought-provoking editorials
by Bill.
Rcently added to this page is the website of my Australian host. It's much
more than just a race car parts & shop page; there's lots of stories about
his previous and current racing activities. There's some great technical information
available, especially in the fuel system department, great photo galleries and
all the latest news from the world of Australian drag racing.
Hey, somebody's got to be at the bottom of the list, eh? No offense to the
hard-working Mike Carr, moderator of this Alcohol Racers Forum, but until more
racers start tuning in and posting their comments and getting some serious
discussions going, this site's going to be at the bottom of the "Top Ten" pile.
Still, that's a long way from the bottom of the site, isn't it?
