Television coverage of Willowbank Raceway's recent Travelaire Tours Pro Stock Challenge on the "Wreckers Hotline Drag Racing '98" program has again attracted a solid audience in Queensland for the Seven Network. Broadcast last Sunday afternoon, AC Nielsen survey figures indicate that the show was seen by well over 100,000 viewers. The program not only featured Tony Wedlock's victory over Kym Petterwood in the Pro Stock category but also provided complete coverage of Wreckers Hotline Top Comp Eliminator and Debbie Reed's defeat of Russell Schaefer. The Brendon and Jason Maggs incredible one, two finish at September's Rocket Industries Junior Dragster titles was also highlighted in a special report on the event. "We're trying to make sure the Wreckers Hotline Drag Racing '98 program provides broad spectrum promotion of our sport as well as event coverage," commented the show's producer, Rob Oberg. "For example, we included a story on the two hour drag racing demonstration that attracted a record 48,200 people to the Friday of the Honda Indycar Grand Prix the previous week. We also do background stories on different categories of racing and other aspects of the sport. The prime objective is obviously to entertain but we also aim to inform." Now coming towards the end of it's second season, consistently strong ratings performances indicate the show has built a solid following with its mix of racing coverage and informative reporting. Audiences in Queensland are regularly well over 100,000 with some episodes approaching 200,000. Later national pay television broadcasts add greatly to the program's reach. An extended version of the Travelaire Tours Pro Stock Challenge episode of Wreckers Hotline Drag Racing '98 containing a complete review of the 1997-98 Willowbank Raceway season will be broadcast nationally via cable and satellite on Foxsports Two through Foxtel on Saturday, November 7th at 9:30pm.
