Wreckers Hotline Back for 1999

Willowbank Raceway General Manager, Dennis Syrmis, announced today that the Wreckers Hotline group of Auto Recyclers had renewed their marketing relationship with the Raceway for the coming year. Willowbank Raceway's television series will again carry the group's name as "Wreckers Hotline Drag Racing '99" and the premier category of the Winters Smash Repairs Willowbank Track Championships will once more be known as "Wreckers Hotline Top Comp".

"Both the television series and Top Comp have been outstanding successes for Willowbank," said Syrmis. "This major backing allows the raceway to take both these projects into 1999 on a secure financial footing. Producing eleven hours of television and getting it to air each year is an extremely expensive exercise for us. Without the support of Wreckers Hotline it would be much more difficult. This year has worked extremely well for everybody with Wreckers Hotline Drag Racing '98 achieving very good ratings. Wreckers Hotline Top Comp is booming and the profile of both our sport and Wreckers Hotline has been boosted enormously".

The Wreckers Hotline is made up of thirty six independent auto recyclers in the South East Queensland area who provide a linked auto parts locating service via radio. This gives customers access to the entire inventory of the thirty six members by one phone call.

Group spokesman, Chris Lawrence, stated "We're very pleased to continue our relationship with drag racing and Willowbank Raceway. We had an independent marketing consultant examine the results of this year's sponsorship and he commented that it was extremely rare to find any organization that delivers everything they promised to a sponsor the way Willowbank had. Our members were more than happy with what was done through 1998 to promote our services. In the coming year we have arranged for the raceway to assist our marketing company enhance what they're doing for us as well. We're looking forward to 1999."

The Wreckers Hotline Drag Racing '99 program will again cover all major events at Willowbank Raceway including the most comprehensive coverage of the Konica Winternationals produced from any Australian drag racing event. Programs will be broadcast Queensland wide on the Seven Network with national cable and satellite telecast provided by Foxsports.

Wreckers Hotline Top Comp continues to grow at an almost unbelievable rate. New cars built for the eliminator are appearing at virtually every event while spectator support for the supercharged cars is as strong as ever. Defending track champion Tom Coonan doesn't expect retaining his title to be easy.

"There's so many good racers in the field that you have to fight for every win light", he commented. "Races are won and lost by thousandths of a second. I think you'll see a lot of different winners this year but we just hope we can put our Holt's Crane Hire Ford up there enough to get the Wreckers Hotline trophy again. What ever happens you can be sure we'll be enjoying ourselves."
