I go to Cecil County tonight for the start of my journey. They are bringing
in four jet cars, along with the Federal Mogul dragsters and funny cars for
what the track operator calls "an extravaganza" celebrating the 50th anniversary
of NHRA. There should be about ten each of the dragsters and floppers.
Frank Manzo is our big star out here and he usually wins most of the points
races, although Paul Gill gives him a run for the money. Aussie Steve Harker
was at a few of our races earlier in the year but he might have gone home after
a series of explosions and fires. Which is strange for an alcohol car. Great
guy and a beautiful car.
In dragster, Cliff Bozzelli has already claimed the Division title, but
there is still a lot of decent iron racing this weekend. Art Gallant in his
A/FD and Billy Gibson piloting the car formerly driven by Jeannie Booz.
Since I don't have a digital camera, I will have to get the film developed
and then scan the pictures. So the story will not be in real time. Probably
three to four days behind.
Here's a few pics from the IHRA Rockingham race last year to give you an
idea of my capability as a photographer. (Click on the thumbnails to see the
full-size images). Hope you enjoy them and the entire series of Fear and
Loathing on the East Coast: A Drag Racing Odyssey.
