"CENTRE LINE"

(This is from the FIRST edition of DRAGSTER Australia)

Well we're one issue old, and personally I feel a couple of years older after the past two weeks. Once we are rolling I think we can look forward to things settling down. We think we've got a lot to offer and we're sure there's a place in every drag fan's budget for a copy of DRAGSTER Australia every fortnight. That's how frequently you can expect to see us and you can see for yourself what you'll be getting.

With this first issue we begin our Personality Profiles with national Top Fuel racer Jim Read. We're not too interested in lots of facts about the life story of people like Jim, they've been written up too many times before. We wanted the inside line on how a national champion feels and thinks; what all those years of racing have demonstrated to Australia's fastest racer. We don't necessarily agree with all that he says but we figure it wouldn't be honest to pretend he didn't say them.

News is our game and NEWS is the column on the other side of this page. While our interstate corespondents Australia-wide will present their contributions on local gossip there are many snippets of information that come across the desk of a publication like ours and NEWS is where you'll find them. And if you know of a friend or racer who's up to something the rest of the world ought to know about (in racing that is -- we can't publish anything dirty) then drop us a line -- don't presume that someone else will pick up on it and do it for you.

Each issue you can expect an editorial comment from these pages as well as many more services to help you out. We've sealed a little deal with the Rules Advisory Panel at ANDRA so that your questions regarding rules clarifications will get some public exposure, thus probably saving other people a lot of worry. If you have any doubts about any rule, get in touch with the RAP at PO Box 280, Fortitude Valley, Qld 4006 -- and do it now before a scrutineer finds out you're not what you claim to be -- and we'll find a spot for you in our pages.

Technical articles will see the light of day in DRAGSTER as we research for you some of those nasty little bits of information that may help you out of a mechanical hole one day. If you want to express any sort of editorial opinion yourself we'll be glad to hear from you as long as it isn't too libellous. Classifieds will be a regular part of our operation as well and if you want to dispose of some unused or pre-cared for equipment then we can help you out. If you want some help or are looking for some urgently needed gear there's a place here for you too.

And that isn't to forget the meeting reports and photos from around Australia and the USA. It looks like we've got everything you need to keep you informed about what's happening in drag racing across Australia and all around the world. And if you've got doubts about finding us on the newsagent shelves you can subscribe for $16 per year by either completing the coupon below or, if you don't wish to cut up your copy of Dragster, by sending us your name and address along with the money.
